Auburn’s annual Designing Green has evolved since its inception over a decade ago. It is typically a two-day event dedicated to sustainable design awareness. Designers who have successfully navigated the challenges associated with sustainable design are invited to share their experiences and a 24-hour design competition is introduced.
As a highlight, Dirk Vander Kooij was invited both in 2012 and 2016 to share his story and kick off the competition, which centered around a giant 3D-printer capable of printing full size furniture and other household pieces. The student teams sketched, modeled, and generated concepts in CAD. The winning design from 2012 was printed on Dirk’s machine and shipped to Auburn.
We are thankful to have had other notable contributions from visitors including David Oakey and Terracycle.
